The challenge
The client, a European vehicle auction company, runs car auctions for both trade buyers and consumers across several countries. It was running on an ageing online platform that had become slow to change and hard to extend, which held the business back as it tried to grow into new markets. It needed a modern, responsive replacement: one that could show buyers rich, accurate information about each vehicle, run auctions for both trade and consumer audiences, and work across several languages.
Our approach
We were brought in to deliver the vehicle-information system at the heart of the rebuilt platform.
- The vehicle information behind every listing. We built the service that supplies the website with the details of each vehicle, drawing on the company's central data source and connecting to its translation service so the same information can be shown accurately in several languages.
- A clean separation that keeps the platform flexible. We built it so the website and the underlying data are cleanly separated. That makes the platform easier to change and extend, instead of everything being tangled together as it was in the old system.
- Built to change safely. The work was thoroughly tested and set up so new changes can be released automatically and safely, which matters for a platform that has to keep evolving across multiple markets.
The result
The business moved off its ageing platform onto a modern, maintainable one. Buyers get fast, accurate vehicle information in their own language through a responsive website, and the clean separation between the site and its data, together with automated testing and delivery, makes future changes quicker and safer to ship across both its trade and consumer markets.
